Future Communications of Mankind

Communication can be defined as the transmission of information from one place to another. We humans are good at communication because we have developed a better tool than any other organism on earth. This tool is the language. We have created languages. Languages ​​are nothing more than organized messaging signals. Animals use sound systems, but they are not considered languages. They may be languages, but they are very limited. Our communication skills have improved thanks to the invention of languages.

Unlike communications, the information to be transmitted from one place to another is always present. Just because we haven’t passed the information from one place to another doesn’t mean that the information isn’t there. Information and communication are interconnected but are two entirely separate entities. We have to deal with them separately in order to understand communication and its future.

After developing languages ​​early in human history, we organized them with grammar. Languages ​​did not have a written form at the beginning. Humans have developed written forms of languages ​​to communicate better without using sound. The letters were originally symbols and much more complicated. Unlike letters today, the first letters represented events or entire messages. Later, the decomposition of these symbols resulted in the use of letters as sound syllables. It was after using symbols or letters to represent the syllables of sound that the language began to develop drastically.

We also needed to build languages ​​when we invented computers. We had to get the message to the computer and wanted the computer to send messages to us. There are several computer languages ​​created by humans. We do not have access to information that cannot be transmitted through the language.

For example, people say that they cannot explain a feeling in words. You may have heard people say that words are not enough. It is not just an expression. It is true that our languages ​​are not sufficient to communicate certain information. However, our skills and communication systems have enabled us to achieve better results.

The future of communications will have to ensure that all information can be communicated. The future of communications will certainly be influenced by technology. As we have now, there are information and communication technologies. This will break down in the following years into information technology and communication technology. As mentioned above, information and communication are two totally different entities.

Information technology will mainly focus on the collection, storage and processing of information. Communications technology will focus only on communication. We are already at a point where these two need to be separated. Once these two fields are separated, the future of communications will begin.

After inventing languages, we started to use tools to communicate. We still used languages ​​but used tools to apply the language to communicate information. The pen and paper method has been used for centuries. Once we invented electronic media, we turned to electronic media. The Internet has been one of the major developments in the history of human communications. We now communicate mainly via the Internet. All of our cell phones also work with a similar system.

The first electronic communications required larger equipment and special locations. Now we have this communication in our pockets. The next step is to bring this communication system inside our physical body. There has been progress in this direction so that we can one day have the communication system in our body.

Universities and research institutes have carried out experiments in which people with disorders have voluntarily participated. The major theme of these experiments was to place a chip in the cortical column of the brain and act as an intermediary communicator between the brain and an assigned computer. The cortical column is a highly sophisticated and outermost layer of the brain where our thoughts are thought to be processed. Scientists have found a way to accumulate the waves produced by our thoughts and translate them into language that computers can understand. This allowed computers to get commands directly from our brains. Experiments so far have led people to move cursor pointers on a computer screen with their thoughts. It had worked successfully. There have been recordings of people surfing the Internet with their brains. There have been cases of people moving synthetic limbs using the same concept.

This is the current state of future communications technology. This is called the Brain Computer or BCI interface as an abbreviation. BCI is a very advanced scientific stream and is proving to be very effective. In BCI, the human brain communicates only with a computer. When this technology allows people to communicate with each other using computer chips implanted in their brains, then we will reach the future of communications.

There are two major concerns in achieving this state. The first concern is the ethics of placing a chip inside a human brain. There will always be people who support the idea and oppose the idea. If the majority of people didn’t want to do this, it couldn’t be done. The second concern is to permanently place such devices inside the human brain. Permanent placement of such devices would require energy for their operation, clinical safety and precision manufacturing. If such a device breaks down in the brain, replacement would require surgery. No one will want to open their skull just to recharge or repair equipment.

Compared to what is expected of future communications technology, current BCI research is still in its infancy. We will need these devices to be able to translate and then broadcast wireless signals. And the signal must be strong enough to be picked up by the signal towers. To achieve this, the device will need a lot of energy like our phones. We should either place a battery that should power the device for a lifetime or place a mechanism that will continue to charge the device. Placing a battery is not very practical in our experience with cell phones. Placing a mechanism is very possible.

Our body generates heat and this heat is transported by our bloodstream. If the device could be given a mechanism by which thermal energy could be transformed into electricity, the power problem will be solved. There are such devices today. There are watches that work with body heat, for example.

Signal generation is a concern. The signal emitted could damage brain cells with radiation. The equipment will be heated during operation. No one would want to cook their brain upside down. We are still decades away from such technology to exist, but this is where we are headed.

Once this technology is in place, we will be able to communicate feelings with people but not with words. When we communicate to someone now, we are only trying to explain our feelings in words. This is why we say that words are not enough. If the chips are able to receive our brain waves and communicate the same to another person, then the other person will receive exactly what we had in our mind. If you are sad or happy, the other person on the call will feel exactly how you are feeling.

When we say that we are imagining something, we cannot fully explain our imagination to someone. Once this technology is available, we will be able to share our imaginations with others. We can save and preview our dreams. We can share dreams with others in real time. By the time technology reaches such a point, we will have autonomous vehicles. We won’t need to drive. We won’t need to press any buttons on the car. We can communicate with the car with our mind and the car will get us where we want to go.

It’s hard to fully imagine anything before it ever existed. The future is not yet here. We can only predict and anticipate it. People can just predict where current technologies will take us in the future. If people are to anticipate, they will always want a better system than the current one. We will have a better communication system in the future than we can imagine now.
